The independent projects are drafted by the Youth Division and the External Relations Section at Rissho Kosei-kai Tokyo headquarters. The projects currently in effect are the following: 1. Dispatch of Rissho Kosei-kai Members as Volunteers
With the object of realizing a world where people live peacefully together, Rissho Kosei-kai sends members abroad for volunteer activities. In one project, members joined local NGOs in the Campaign for Sharing Blankets with People in Africa and visited African countries to distribute the blankets. In another case, members joined the Little Bags of Dreams Campaign and visited the former Yugoslavia and other countries for distribution of the little gift cloth bags. Rissho Kosei-kai also sends its members to undertake afforestation projects conducted in Ethiopia and India. 2. The Little Bags of Dreams Campaign Rissho Kosei-kai, together with other organizations, conducts this campaign to bring joy to children who have suffered the tragedy of the loss of their homes or members of their families from civil wars or ethnic conflicts in various parts of the world. Young members and their families fill little cloth bags with stationery items, small toys, and items of daily use to be distributed to the children. Some 63,254 such little cloth bags have been distributed so far. The fund covers the shipping expenses and publicity activities of the Little Bags of Dreams Campaign. 3. Educational Program This project came into operation to support students who will be able to make special contributions to world peace so they can study issues that create obstacles to that goal. 4. Support for Activities of Rissho Kosei-kai's Local Churches At the request of Rissho Kosei-kai local churches, the fund allocates a certain amount to support the church's activities in the fields of interreligious cooperation, development assistance, and cultural exchange, among others. 5. Management of the Rissho Kosei-kai Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace The fund is also utilized for research, training, and public relations activities related to each project that it supports. 6. Publicity Activities Rissho Kosei-kai undertakes to publicize its Donate-a-Meal Movement and its public service activities through the mass media in order to arouse public interest in Japan and inform people of the important social role that religious faith plays. 7. Sakhalin Support Project
This project is intended to promote prayers for the repose of the spirits of all victims of World War II on the island of Sakhalin and to encourage cultural exchanges between students at the Institute of Economics and Oriental Studies of Sakhalin State University and with Japanese residents of the island through the Japan-Sakhalin Fraternal Exchange Association, for which the Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace provides financial support. 8. Rissho Kosei-kai Global Volunteers (RGV) Rissho Kosei-kai launched its Rissho Kosei-kai Global Volunteers (RGV) in 1996 and the fund provides financial support for its activities. Rissho Kosei-kai sends RGV members, including members of the Global Volunteer Leaders (GVL), to foreign countries to take part in such activities as rural development. 9. Promotion of the Donate-a-Meal Movement The fund also uses its resources to promote this campaign among Rissho Kosei-kai members, as well as the general public, to increase understanding of the aims of the campaign. |
