The Rissho Kosei-kai Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace receives requests for financial assistance from many nongovernmental organizations in Japan as well as overseas. The fund's executive committee deliberates on whether or not a proposed project accords with the aims of the Donate-a-Meal Movement, and if it decides favorably determines the amount of financial assistance to allocate. There are six categories in which the fund provides grants.

1. General Grants

General grants are intended to support projects of nongovernmental organizations in the fields of disarmament, development, environmental protection, human rights, sustenance for refugees, social welfare, education, and support for creating cooperative networks among public, private, and media organizations.

2. Contribution to Interreligious Cooperation

With the object of interreligious cooperation, the fund assists projects proposed by religious organizations in Japan and abroad. Recent projects for which support was allocated are the social development project of the International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF), the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) Fund for Peace and Development and its Support for Migrant Workers in Japan and Support for Afghan Refugees programs, and the Asian Conference on Religion and Peace (ACRP) Peace Education Center.

3. Special Assignments

This category includes the fund's continuing financial support for the Dhammarajika Orphanage in Bangladesh and the Kyongju Nazareth Center in South Korea. The latter operates the Kyongju Nazareth Home Care Center for elderly Japanese who remained in, or who returned to, South Korea after World War II.

4. Support for United Nations

One of Rissho Kosei-kai's fundamental principles is support for United Nations activities for world peace. On that basis, the fund makes financial contributions to UN facilities in seven categories. Among these are the World Food Programme, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and the United Nations Association of Japan. Together with the UN Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific, the association holds an annual symposium aimed at forming the "habit of dialogue" among Northeast Asian countries to lead to a regional organization like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

5. Emergency Aid for Natural Disasters

The fund provides relief assistance for victims of natural disasters at home and abroad. It does this through foreign embassies in Japan, local governments, and nongovernmental organizations. The fund has so far made such contributions following ten disasters in five in countries, including Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Japan.
