JEN Outlines Emergency Relief in Sri Lanka

The head of the JEN (a Japanese multiorganizational nonprofit group) office in Sri Lanka, Mr. Shu Nishimaru, visited JEN's headquarters in Tokyo on June 16 to report on JEN's emergency relief measures in Sri Lanka.
JEN has given relief to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the north of the country since the end of the civil war in 2009. Rissho Kosei-kai's Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace has supported JEN activities. Mr. Nishimaru made his report to eleven representatives of member organizations of JEN.
He reported on JEN's efforts to supply food, water, and hygiene products to IDPs. He also explained that JEN has provided building materials for the reconstruction of villages in the north of the country. He also described JEN's agricultural training since 2007 of returnees in eastern Sri Lanka to help them become self-reliant.
Mr. Nishimaru enumerated five things JEN member organizations can do for IDPs: (1) investigate their plight, (2) act to help them, (3) continue present relief work, (4) don't forget the IDPs, and (5) publicize their needs.
