Kosei Counseling Research Institute Holds Study Session on Coping with Grief
The Kosei Counseling Research Institute held its annual consultation and study session for the year 2011 under the theme "Thinking about Life and Death: How We Should Approach Life, How We Should Support Each Other," July 2-3, at Rissho Kosei-kai's headquarters' facilities. Some 330 certified counselors took part. On July 2, Dr. Alfons Deeken, professor emeritus of Sophia University in Tokyo and a pioneer in teaching preparation for death, or death education, made a keynote speech on spiritual healing and humor. He described twelve processes through which someone in despair over the death of a loved one can recover from their grief after becoming able to accept the fact of death. He also explained the role of humor in the process of grief recovery.
