Brazil Dharma Center Holds Third Leaders' Seminar

June 2012

The Brazil Dharma Center's third leaders' seminar was held in São Paulo on June 3. The leaders' seminars are held quarterly, and 20 people, including the audience, attended the one on June 3.

The seminar addressed three themes: Rissho Kosei-kai's work for peace, dharani, and Dharma circles (hoza). There was a lecture by an assistant minister, practice in reading dharani, and the sharing of spiritual experiences in Dharma circles.

One member who newly enshrined a Gohonzon (focus of devotion) at her home altar described as follows what she had learned from participation in Dharma circles:

"The minister advised me to enshrine the Gohonzon in my living room, where my family gathers, instead of my own room. So I enshrined the Gohonzon in the living room, as he suggested. After that, I discovered that I could see a Bodhi tree in the garden of the Brazil Dharma Center from the window of my living room, and this made me happy. The minister gave me welcome advice even though he didn't come to my home.

"After the enshrinement of the Gohonzon, my children changed. My youngest son, who had been uninterested in the Buddha, began to take an interest in him and visited the Dharma center for the first time."

To learn about the basic teachings of Rissho Kosei-kai and to follow the bodhisattva way themselves, members take various roles in many ceremonies through out the year, guide others to the Way, and support fellow members in their efforts to practice the teachings of the Dharma, as well as attending leaders' seminars. They practice the teachings diligently in preparation for a final test of their qualifications as Associate Dharma Teachers after graduating from the seminar.
