The International Association of Liberal Religious Women (IALRW) Japan held a seminar on disaster relief May 19 in Taisei Hall at Rissho Kosei-kai headquarters in Tokyo. Ninety-one members took part.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Rev. Tatsuya Shindo, minister of the Tsumibito no Tomo (Friends of Sinners) Christianity Association, and Rev. Yoshiko Izumida, a former honorary executive board member of Rissho Kosei-kai. Both reported on their organizations' relief activities in areas of northeastern Japan devastated by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami and discussed the roles of people of faith in supporting disaster victims.
