Pres and Mrs Niwano visit Izumo Grand Shrine

The president of Rissho Kosei-kai, Rev. Nichiko Niwano, and Mrs. Niwano visited Izumo Grand Shrine in Shimane Prefecture on May 19. They performed a formal act of worship in the haiden hall of worship (Okariden) and met with the chief priest, Rev. Takamasa Senge, and other officials: Rev. Yoshioki Aoki, director of the Jinjacho (Shrine Agency) of Shimane Prefecture; Rev. Nagahiko Senge and Rev. Yoshihiko Senge, deputy chief priests at the shrine; Rev. Yasutaka Watanabe, chair of Rissho Kosei-kai's Board of Trustees; and Rev. Teruko Nagase, minister of the Matsue Dharma Center of Rissho Kosei-kai.

The meeting's topics included the shrine's dai-sengu, or transfer of the deity Okuninushi-no-mikoto from the present hall of worship to the main hall. The ceremony will be held next year for the first time in 60 years, after repair of the main hall is completed.

The chief priest thanked members of the Matsue Dharma Center members for their volunteer work over the years in cleaning the shrine's grounds.
