Free Concerts Given in Disaster Areas
In December the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (TKWO) gave its second series of free charity concerts in the disaster areas in Fukushima, Iwate, and Miyagi Prefectures. The concerts complemented relief projects for the victims of the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan on March 11. Rissho Kosei-kai has provided emergency relief since then under the motto "United in One Heart."
TKWO performed on December 12 in the main hall of the Alios Iwaki Performing Arts Center in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. The audience of some 1,400 people included members of local junior and senior high school brass bands. TKWO also performed on December 14 in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, and on December 15 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
The concerts were underwritten by a donation from the Rissho Kosei-kai Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace, as a token of sympathy, to local governments in those prefectures, where the damage was heaviest.
